Name explanations and the details of the islets:

To explain the special name of the Fighting Cock Islets, most people based on two theories. Both explanations are based on the shape of the islets. According to many people who believe in the first theory, the islets look like two cocks that are fighting against each other, so they name it the Fighting Cock Islets.

But for some other people, when looking at the islets, they see the image of two chickens: one is a cock, the other is a hen and they are kissing. So, they associate the image with the name Trong Mai Islets (Cock-Hen Islets). In fact, although most people concur with the second explanation, there is absolutely no unanimity on the name yet.

The Fighting Cock Islets is the combination of two limestone islets: one islet has the shape of a rooster, the other one is believed as a hen. They’re about 10 meters tall and have tiny pillars that prop up the majestic bodies of the chickens. The heavy “chicken” bodies with diminutive legs make the Fighting Cock Islets look even more fragile as if a strong wave is able to cause the collapse of two famous limestone islets.

But many years have passed by, the Fighting Cock Islets still stands imposingly and strongly weathers the storms. Many people believe that since the love of the two chickens has touched the heart of the God, he has protected them throughout the years.

Not only bearing the aesthetic value, but this islets also brings back many inspirations for a lot of artists. due to that reason, the Fighting Cock Islets have entered many famous songs and literary works. Artists consider the beautiful and romantic image of  the two chickens as the symbol of everlasting love between the male and the female. A famous poem used to state (in English means:):

“There were people ardently loved each other

Carved their names on the Trong Mai Islets

Their names hadn’t faded yet but they had forgotten each other

The stone’s love still lasted with the moon forever”.
